HYDERABAD: Four students of dance and music from Maldives who are big fans of A R Rahman and Hindi film music are here to participate in the 10th National Youth Festival. They want to make the most of their visit by learning India music. "In our country, Hindi film music is very popular. We copy your tunes and write our lyrics. It sells big time. So, I would like to learn music here and make number one records back home," said Ali Abdul Kareem, who has been learning music for the past 17 years. Kareem had asked the youth services commissioner here to give them an opportunity to study Indian music by enrolling into some music courses in Hyderabad. Kareem along with a fellow musician, Ibrahim Niyaz and two other dance students, Zeena Sayed and Ayesha Nisha performed the traditional Maldives dance of 'Bodu Beru' at Necklace Road on Tuesday. "We have only academic festivals or competitive events, never such cultural events. We would like to ask our government to organise similar fests so that Indians also can come and see our culture," Kareem said.
